Frequently Asked Questions
What does your typical client look like?
If you split your financial life in two, you have the saving stage and you have the spending stage. We work with folks who are already in the spending stage or who are about to be. The work tends to be much more tax centric, and the investments are designed for people in this stage. Our clients hire us with the goal of helping them maximize their income, minimize their taxes, and plan their estate.
We serve the “active retiree.” Meaning that, while they are retired or about to be, their lives are full. They are busy, successful people who spend their time travelling, consulting, or volunteering. Family is often a top priority.
Our clients are generally either referred to us by other clients, financial professionals, or they find us through Evan’s writing for Kiplinger. They are often navigating one of the following transitions: retirement or a business sale, relocation, death or divorce.
Do you have an investment minimum?
Yes. $2M. Our clients often have between $2M-$15M. They do not have to invest all their money with us, but we generally require they invest at least $2M.
Where do your clients live?
All over the world. However, they must be US citizens with a US address.
Do you have a physical office?
Yes, in Old Town, Alexandria, VA.
Are you a Fiduciary?
Yes.
How do you charge?
Our service offering is a 3-legged stool that includes:
-
- Financial planning: This helps you answer your most important financial questions.
Can I retire? Will my money last? Where do I get my income from? Should I downsize? - Tax planning: This helps you lower your lifetime tax bill.
- Investment Management: This is designed for people in, or close to, the spending stage.
- Financial planning: This helps you answer your most important financial questions.
For this, we charge a percentage of the investments that are under our direct management. Just as no one like paying a fee for a bag or a seat when they buy a plane ticket, we never want our clients to be hit with a surprise bill. We want you to call us when you need us. We won’t send a bill.
